keeping my metal juices flowing with Shilid

by: timothy java @ 5:09 pm — Tags: , ,

I recently had the pleasure of meeting a group of talented and genuinely stoked musicians looking to begin their journey into the metal frontier. the band Shilid contacted me looking for drum duties on their new material and I made the trip up to northern Minnesota to get a glimpse of the action for myself.

I have always enjoyed the challenge and creative forces needed for pulling off such a powerful style of music. I have no doubt there will be more projects of this nature to come in the near future.

stay tuned!

Obama administration to aid RIAA in squeezing artists and fans dry.

by: timothy java @ 1:22 pm — Tags: , , ,

Lime SplashMarch 25th update…
with the Obama Justice Department staffed by RIAA lawyers we are going to see things like massive digital service providers bowing down to aid the RIAA’s endless stubbornness in the war on piracy.

what does this mean for artists anchored to the sinking ship of record labels? maynard says it best, “learn to swim.” with all the industries money being burned up on another tactic to scare consumers into purchasing music, where will the finances come from to help the artist produce quality material you are still being forced to purchase. how can artists receive tour support to come visit you in person? and even if they do successfully battle 20 other bands on their label for a touring budget, fans don’t have much money left to support their favorite artist through ticket sales do they?

when will this be obvious to people? when will this information become a tool to conquer the corrupt power that is unfortunately ruling over the most profound human ability to create, entertain, and inspire the masses?

Mar 26th update…
A bit of hesitation is leaving people in a haze of questions about just how “on board” Internet Service Providers really are about this whole situation. AT&T loosely denies the words of the RIAA on USAtoday regarding their new tactic to shut down users internet service based on a 3rd strike of copyright infringement. RIAA president Carey Sherman himself has admitted to Verizon not wanting any part in the idea, but how long till will we receive a firm statement from the other ISP’s in regard to the situation?

a little humor

April 3rd update…
Let’s just say Obama is really taking heat over the situation. Ive never been one for political categorization, and don’t really ever plan to be… This situation is exactly why. I honestly thought Obama entering office would shed some revolutionairy light on the RIAA vs The People situation. Winning a huge chunk of his votes through social networking campaigns aimed at generationY (major demographic charged by the RIAA for file sharing) would make you think his ideals would apply to the ideals of his “target audience.” But because people are just now realizing who the president has hired to pull strings for him after he has been elected makes absolutely no sense to me at all… but ultimately the most irritating thing is how people are now pointing the finger back across the isle. Republicans rubbing it in peoples faces scolding them for their decision making skills coming back to bite them in the ass now that they got their president… Cool country… When do I leave again?

April 14th update…
make that 6 RIAA representatives. According to Sound Opinion’s Greg Kot (who I am now stoked on because of his new Mastodon interview) and Jim Dero, France is now moving forward with the 3 strike penalty system. More info here.

a high gamer

by: andrew linde @ 3:58 am — Tags: , , ,

high-gameri’m not going to advocate drug use, or promote abstaining from chemical substances for that matter. i am however, going to laugh out loud at the feeble attempts of: abovetheinfluence to scare gamers away from using marjiuana with this website: “GAMING HIGH

so much energy in this world is spent on matters that matter not (in the grand scheme of things.)

at least show people both sides of the coin. as bill hicks said: “If you don’t believe drugs have done good things for us, then go home and burn all your records, all your tapes, and all your CDs because every one of those artists who have made brilliant music and enhanced your lives? RrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrEAL fucking high on drugs.”

Ridiculous! Just Ridiculous!!!

by: phil merriman @ 1:17 pm — Tags: , ,

waternucket1So, for the past 3 MONTHS, I guess you can call them “workers”, have been “working” on the roof of my apartment building. See, I live on the top floor, so I can hear pretty much everything that they’re doing. I mean it wouldn’t bother me so much, because I can sleep through pretty much anything; fire alarms, roommates fighting with their girlfriends, jackhammers on the roof, you name it, I can probably sleep through it. Thats not the problem. This crew must be a bunch of fuckin morons, because all they do is fuckin pound on the roof! Anyone who stays over, including my singer, Andrew, can not sleep past 7 in the a.m. due to the extreme noise caused by these “workers”. But, like I said, for me, thats not the problem.

One day, about a month ago, in the afternoon, they were just going crazy. It seriously sounded like they had elephants up there. CRASH! BOOM! BANG! POW!! Eventually, i heard the loudest pounding to date, followed by cracking sounds, IN MY CEILING! 2 cracks in the ceiling in my room, followed by spackle falling all over my clothes, and my bed. A huge crack in the kitchen, spackle all over the floor. I thought to myself, “this is ridiculous! Just ridiculous!!!” I hoped that was that…

I came home about a week ago, and in the stairwell up to my apartment, there was a bucket. Just a bucket, nothing mysterious, you know, a bucket. A pretty large one at that. Well, I thought to myself, “this is odd, I wonder why this is here…” So I took a look around, couldn’t find anything. Then I looked in the bucket, and it’s damn near half full of water!! The goddamn ceiling, I mean ROOF, is leaking!! ARE YOU SERIOUS!?!?! They were just fuckin “working” on it!! FOR 3 MONTHS!!!! I thought they were supposed to fix the roof, NOT MAKE IT LEAK!!! So, i thought that was pretty funny. What group of morons gets hired to fix a roof, and leaves it leaking!?!? I mean, really? So, once again, I hoped that was that.

Wrong again!!!

I wake up this morning. I hear a weird dripping sound close by. I start to move a bit, and realize my feet are all wet! Im layin here goin what the hell?!?! I look around, and to my astonishment, the ceiling is leaking, ON MY BED!!!! So, I went and got my own bucket, and now its on my bed, filling up with water, as we speak. Or rather, as I type. I hope by the time you read this, this will all be over. If not, Im sure you will hear about it…

Im going to call my landlord right now…

Tom Cruise in “The Sixth Sense”

by: timothy java @ 8:47 pm — Tags: , , , ,

With technologies’ exponential growth turning a blind eye to economical situations and low spirits across the country, mankind begins the race for answers and a new path of convenience through life. Wether its science, religion, or a strange mix of the two led by Jerry Maguire, we must keep the key to believing in a higher power.

We must be aware of inventions like this before marketing tactics present them to us in a way that benefits them and allows us justification in rewiring our natural “sixth-sense” that houses the human soul. Imagine for a second how many strong Christian followers rely on Macintosh’s apple computer, iPod, or iPhone every day and don’t even realize the genius behind the companies branding we all recognize and relate to without hesitation.

“Belief in things invisible is not a privilege of religious people, believers, alone, but is a necessity if one is to be able to explain the world in a reasonable fashion and lead a meaningful life. An understanding of the invisible reality around us negates the usual boundaries of time and space and gives our lives significance.” From the words of Carl Welkisch.

As we Build Society for the 21st Century with online communities evolving faster than we can read the terms of agreement too, and technology that keeps us connected to fueling this growth, we must never forget our natural senses and abilities to live, learn, and make our own decision. Much like we dodge the unanswerable question and say, ” the point of life is to enjoy the ride,” maybe it is best that we do not define our “sixth-sense”. Maybe it is best that we respect it as a physical tool that brings us faster communication, material convenience and nothing more.

distant worlds comp tix!

by: andrew linde @ 2:37 am — Tags: ,

ff-dw_logothe producers of the distant worlds concert series were nice enough to hook modernsextrash up with comp tickets to the show held here in minneapolis on april 11th, 2009 at the orpheum theatre! i love final fantasy and Nobuo Uematsu’s music is not only an influence for my musical journey but an inspiration to me for how music and visuals are ‘hopelessly’ fused in our digital world.

seeing his music performed live will be an epic moment and i encourage anyone who has played these games to join us to see Mr. Uematsu’s creations come to life.

i’m stoked… check back for my reivew!
